Did you know that in the 1800s, a medical school in Chennai opened its doors to women before even Britain allowed women to become doctors? The Madras Medical College has been the alma mater of many trailblazing women. Mary Scharlieb, one of the first to graduate from the college, became the first woman M.D. from London University, and her legacy still lives on in Chennai. YBPS : Meet Our Alumni Dr.Arun Kumar Lakshmanan, Class of 2014, completed his Master of Surgery (General Surgery) at Madras Medical College, Chennai, in January 2025. As a dynamic surgical resident, he focuses on general and laparoscopic surgery. He plans to specialise further, explore the world of nanotechnology in surgery, and unlock its untapped potential.
