#Liver_abscess A liver abscess is a pocket of pus inside the liver caused by infection. It is dangerous and needs urgent treatment. 🦠 Causes & Types 1. Bacterial (Pyogenic) – most common • Germs from the gut (e.g. E. coli, Klebsiella) spread to the liver. • Often from gallbladder disease, bile duct infection, or appendicitis. 2. Amebic (Parasitic) • Caused by Entamoeba histolytica. • Spread by dirty food or water (fecal–oral route). • Common in developing countries. 3. Fungal • Usually Candida.

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (HvKP) has become a major pathogen that causes severe human infections such as pyogenic liver abscesses, pneumonia, and endophthalmitis. HvKP strains typically possess a thick, hypermucoid capsule and therefore produce mucoid colonies that generate a positive result in string test.
