I love when physical therapists and trainers refer knee replacement patients my way. It’s humbling to know that others respect you. I’m not doing anything unique, per se, I’m just incorporating contemporary science and solid techniques. And a lot of listening, talking, coaching and care along the way 😊 | Dr. Howard Luks

Some patients just need us to listen. Listen to their fears, their hesitation and what’s holding them back. Then all they need is some reassurance that they’re not damaged and that’s it 😊 | Dr. Howard Luks

Part of a great warm up routine. The jumping is a way to warm up our tendons. It’s a great way to challenge our tendons if they’ve been untrained. The side to side movement challenges our balance and ability to absorb and generate a change in direction force. Many potential uses and adaptation for a relatively simple exercise. | Dr. Howard Luks

Many people want to know where to start… How do I build strength and improve the tendons and muscles you expect to propel you for jumps??? Isometric exercises are where you start. Tbh… you should always do them- even if well trained ;-). These are for the quadriceps. You can do both legs or single leg. I hold this position for 40-60 seconds. And I will do that 3 times. Start where you need to. Even if it’s 10 seconds. | Dr. Howard Luks

So close. So very close. If you train for it. You might be able to do it. Please don’t assume you’re too old. | Dr. Howard Luks

How do you manage tendon pain?? It’s often the opposite of what you think. It’s usually not “rest”. It’s almost never immobilization or a boot 🤦♂️. Tendons want load to heal. Often a heavy load, too. | Dr. Howard Luks
