Multiple warnings were in effect along the East Coast on Wednesday, as officials warned of a "life-threatening" situation.

An updated storm surge warning was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC on Wednesday at 10:58 a.m. in effect until 7 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.

By Rich McKay (Reuters) -Hurricane Erin, churning north in the Atlantic hundreds of miles offshore, is expected to trigger a dangerous storm surge and tropical storm conditions on Wednesday along North Carolina’s Outer Banks and other stretches of the U.

A storm surge warning was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC on Tuesday at 1:09 p.m. for Hatteras Island.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along the U.S. East Coast as Hurricane Erin grows in size this week, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday.

Hurricane Erin is expected to stay at least 200 miles offshore this week as it curves past the East Coast. Yet the massive storm still is hurling giant waves and life-threatening storm surge toward North Carolina’s Outer Banks — forcing some communities to evacuate.

On Tuesday at 5:05 a.m. the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC released an updated storm surge watch in effect until 1:15 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.

Tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding are expected to appear in areas along the Outer Banks starting late Wednesday.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Crews will begin breaking down parts of the East Coast Surfing Championships setup at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Wednesday morning because of storm surge concerns, organizers told 13News Now.
