West Virginia National Guard troops have begun to arrive in Washington, DC, to assist with President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown in the nation’s capital, a defense official told CNN on Tuesday.

In President Trump’s second term, many of his most high-profile initiatives have doubled as opportunities to test the loyalty of Republican leaders.

Personnel from West Virginia arrived Monday, with troops from South Carolina, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Louisiana expected to arrive Tuesday.
