Gov. Brian Kemp joins 16 other Republican governors citing high inflation, high input costs and more in asking Congress to urgently pass an updated Farm Bill

The Republican Governors Association (RGA) called on congressional leaders Monday not to pass a one-year extension of the 2018 farm bill rather than a new package as the December deadline looms. The House GOP reportedly plans to proceed with plans to extend the existing law rather than pass a new one.

A group of Republican governors has joined together in a letter to key congressional leaders and agricultural policymakers that warns that delayed reforms and inflationary pressures are pushing farmers to a breaking point.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, along with governors from 16 other states, signed a joint letter Monday urging Congress to reauthorize the Farm Bill and to provide “immediate financial assistance” to the agricultural sector.

The Farm Bill was last authorized in 2018, and after failing to reauthorize it on the typical five-year schedule in 2023, Congress extended the 2018 bill through the 2024 fiscal and crop year.
