Two sanitation workers who were on the picket line in the AFSCME District Council 33 union strike were hit by a vehicle in Philadelphia's Port Richmond section late Thursday night, police said. A driver is already in custody and charged with hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

Many AFSCME DC 33 members have been itching for the union to take a dramatic stand against the city ever since then-Mayor Rendell won concessions in a 1992 contract. On Tuesday, they got their wish.

Negotiations are back on between AFSCME District Council 33, Philadelphia's largest blue-collar union, and the Parker administration as the municipal workers' strike continued into its second day Wednesday.
