President Donald Trump called on Congress to make his expiring 2017 tax cuts permanent just hours after House Republicans squeaked through a tax-and-spending plan paving the way for a temporary extension through deep cuts in safety-net programs such as Medicaid.

President Trump's agenda made it through a procedural vote in the House by the narrowest of margins, setting up more showdowns to come over tax cuts and the future of Medicaid. Plus - some Republicans are starting to speak up (very gently) about the DOGE cuts after getting an earful from their constituents.
