The Big 12 preseason poll dropped on Thursday, October 16, and ASU was picked to finish dead last in the conference. The Big 12 coaches voted on the poll, and the coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. The opposing coaches are not sold on ASU after its 13-20 (4-16) season last year.

The Big 12 released its preseason coaches poll for men’s basketball on Thursday, with coach Tad Boyle’s Buffaloes finishing 15th with 37 points. That is the same placement and point total the Buffs received last year, but an 0-13 start in league play ultimately doomed them to a last-place finish in the regular season.

The projected 10th-place finish for the Cougars is the highest BYU has appeared in the preseason Big 12 poll since joining the league. The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in 2022-23 and 12th last season. BYU went 4-14 in conference play last season and 13-17 overall, finishing in a tie for 12th in the conference standings.
