The two most important things to Trump are his image and money. It’s important to Trump to maintain an image of a “strong leader.” Therefore, “flexing muscles” on Putin is a good way to present this. Certainly when Russia and “the communists” are still considered by majority of Americans as the greatest enemy of the American way of life.
