The South African Communist Party have decided to contest the 2026 local government elections alone, but citizens think they would fail without the ANC's support.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has signalled a significant shift in its political strategy by announcing its decision to contest the upcoming 2026 local government elections as an independent party.

SACP general secretary Solly Mapaila told the media that the decision to contest the elections was taken last year, but decided to pause the move because of how the “imperialist forces” fought to bring the ANC down.
