Tuesday’s overnight storm dropped 8 inches of snow in Galloway in Atlantic County and 7.8 inches in Cape May, the weather service said. There were widespread totals of 6 inches or more in Atlantic County and lighter snow accumulations in central and northern New Jersey.

Around 2:30 p.m., some snow was showing up on weather radar in the Garden State, but a dry layer of air in the lower atmosphere was causing the snow to evaporate before reaching the ground. That’s a phenomenon known as virga.

After a weekend storm that brought at least several inches of snow to the tri-state, we’re preparing once again for more snow. But Tuesday’s snow storm will be more of an event for southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
