NASA has been tracking a giant asteroid, about the size of a stadium, that is set to pass very close to Earth this week.

Every year, over 3,000 near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) are found by NASA's survey telescopes. With the use of more powerful and sophisticated telescopes, the likely discovery rate will continue to increase. To date, over 36,000 NEAs have been discovered by telescopes that search the night sky, according to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

NASA is monitoring a “massive” asteroid which is set to pass by Earth on Tuesday. Scientists keeping a close eye on the asteroid have assured it poses no threat. The asteroid is called “447755 (2007 JX2),

The asteroids, named 447755 (2007 JX2) and (2020 XR), are each estimated to be roughly between 900 feet and 2,100 feet across.
