Vance will be sworn in as vice president at the Jan. 20 inauguration alongside President-elect Donald Trump, just two years after he joined the U.S. Senate. His resignation also clears the way for Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to appoint his replacement.

JD Vance will resign his Senate seat effective Thursday at midnight, a Vance spokesperson told CNN, days ahead of assuming the vice presidency.
