President Trump's son-in-law says his relationships in the Middle East helped him broker a deal between Hamas and Israel. But his business ties also present a potential conflict.

Lead U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner told CBS's "60 Minutes" that Israel launching air strikes at Hamas negotiators in Qatar, and then President Trump strongly encouraging them to apologize and promise never to do it again,

President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff — the pair largely responsible for Trump’s Israel-Hamas peace deal — provided rare insight into how the administration is trying to disarm the terror group and re-establish secure leadership in war-torn Gaza.

Hamas has been working to use its weapons to reestablish itself as the entity that is governing Gaza. The U.S. said in a statement Saturday that attacks against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement.

The developers-turned-diplomats talked about their experience and ties to the Arab world in a lengthy “60 Minutes” interview.

Kushner, who also proposed an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan during Trump’s first term, described his reaction to viewing the devastation in Gaza, where he visited after the ceasefire took effect and saw Palestinians returning to their destroyed homes. “It’s very sad, because you think to yourself, they really have nowhere else to go,” he said.

The U.S. and Israel are considering a plan that would divide Gaza into separate zones controlled by Israel and Hamas, with reconstruction only taking place on the Israeli side.

Rubio's arrival will follow that of US Vice President JD Vance, who touched down in Israel on Tuesday. US President Donald Trump's envoys Jared Kushner and Steven Witkoff are also in Israel.

Israel has reopened two crossings in Gaza, while the key Rafah crossing will stay closed to the movement of people until further notice.
