Texas lawmakers heard one of the most comprehensive accounts of what happened at Camp Mystic during the devastating July 4 floods and questioned the owner’s actions and preparedness.

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas leaders have reacted to the news Thursday that Camp Mystic will remain closed for the 2026 season. The decision by leaders of the all-girls, Christian summer camp came after emotional testimony at legislative hearings in Austin about last year’s deadly floods.

The summer camp hadn’t prepared counselors and staff with adequate emergency training, an evacuation plan or flood preparedness supplies, the investigator concluded.
