The “attack,” as many are calling it, occurred at Dillon Beach in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. This is a notoriously sharky area, home to some of the larger great whites, perusing the Golden State. In fact, one nearby spot is even dubbed the “shark pit.”
Outside of the North Bay, a shark attack is believed to have been involved in the disappearance of a triathlete at Lovers Point in Monterey. Erica Fox, 55, was last seen Sunday after a member of her swim club spotted a shark in the area she’d been swimming.
It’s apparently the first fatal shark attack at Lovers Point in more than 70 years, but 3 years after a fellow swimmer was severely injured.
Authorities are searching for a missing 55-year-old swimmer in Pacific Grove, believed to have been involved in a possible shark attack near Lover's Point.
