Residents in several counties across Kansas and Missouri started to assess damage and cleanup debris from a line of severe storms and tornadoes that moved through Monday night.
Parts of the town were impassable and "power lines are down all over."
Three people were injured, none seriously, late April 13 when an EF-2 tornado struck Ottawa in Franklin County in east-central Kansas.
The tornado moved 7.3 miles over 25 minutes Monday night with a peak wind speed of 125 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Three people were injured, according to the report.
A local hotel was nearly destroyed, its roof ripped away, leaving beds and furniture exposed to the open sky. Elsewhere in town, power lines were down and other businesses lay in ruins.
With roads back open, crews continued working to clear large trees and limbs scattered throughout the hardest hit neighborhoods.
Earthquakes Canada reported a magnitude 3.9 earthquake, northeast of Shawville, Que. Residents said the earthquake "shook the houses" and lasted for around 15-20 seconds. According to initial reports, the earthquake hit around noon (local time) today, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles.
Severe thunderstorms Monday evening led to a confirmed tornado in Ottawa, several reported injuries across Kansas and significant damage, and forecasters warn severe weather could return to region Tuesday night.
