Russia’s war in Ukraine continues, despite US President Donald Trump’s promise to end the conflict within 24 hours of his return to office in January. Should Trump succeed in brokering a peace deal, the agreement will have to address the future of Ukraine’s occupied territory.

The United States and Ukraine were set to continue work on Monday on a plan to end the war with Russia after agreeing to modify an earlier proposal that was widely seen as too favorable to Moscow.

The White House and Ukraine’s presidency released a joint statement overnight saying “meaningful progress” had been made toward “aligning positions.”
