The mayor was indicted in September on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery. Prosecutors alleged he accepted illegal campaign contributions and discounted travel from foreign nationals seeking to buy his influence while he was campaigning to become mayor. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Eric Adams isn’t going away. That was the message the mayor delivered in a sober but defiant five-minute midday address from City Hall on Tuesday, all but comparing Donald Trump’s Justice Department to the Almighty after Washington directed the Southern District of New York to dismiss the corruption charges against him.

The move also puts Adams on a short leash: He still could be hit with similar or additional charges if team Trump decides to send another memo to New York prosecutors. Expect more of the mayor’s feverish, embarrassing efforts to curry favor with President Trump by never publicly voicing any kind of criticism of the White House.
