JD Vance criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on Saturday, writing on X that according to the Democrat, “the real victim of 9/11” was his aunt.

The mayoral hopeful also spoke out in support of "those Muslims in this city who do not have the luxury of being the Democratic nominee."

At a news conference later Friday, Cuomo accused Mamdani of “playing the victim” for political purposes and denied that Islamophobia existed on a wide scale in New York.

"I just couldn't believe what was happening," Mamdani said of his June appearance. "That a genocide could be distilled into a late-night game."

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, said he would be willing to credit President Donald Trump with brokering a ceasefire in Gaza if the agreement is enforced and “delivers peace.

Mamdani called for the return of the hostages​ and mourned the loss of lives on the day of the attack, while also condemning the Israeli government's response.
