Grant Fisher became the first American to break a distance world record in a world indoor championships event in 22 years.

Yared Nuguse set a new World Record in the indoor mile at the 2025 Millrose Games in 3:46.63, taking this third Wanamaker Mile championship in a row.

American middle-distance runners Grant Fisher and Yared Nuguse each walked away from the Millrose Games with a win and a world indoor record.

Yared Nuguse's world record in the indoor mile — the first U.S. world record on the track at that distance since the 1980s — lasted less than five days. Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen lowered the world record from Nuguse's 3:46.

While Nuguse picked up one world record, he lost an American record today. Grant Fisher shattered Nuguse’s American record for 3,000 meters indoors (7:28.23) with his world indoor 3,000 meter record of 7:22.91. Cole Hocker was right behind Fisher, too. But Nuguse is sure he could have been there with those guys.

Cathedral H.S. grad Cole Hocker came in under the world indoor record for 3,000 meters Saturday, but finished second to fellow American Grant Fisher.
