The Washington Commanders came to an agreement with Washington, D.C., officials to take over the old RFK Stadium site in hopes of building a new facility there.

Washington's new stadium would open in 2030, with groundbreaking expected next year, pending D.C. City Council approval.

ESPN's John Keim first reported on Sunday that the Commanders agreed to a deal with the District of Columbia to build a new stadium where RFK Stadium still stands. The franchise played at RFK Stadium from 1961 to 1996 and won all three of its Super Bowls during that span.
