OpenAI's board of directors has not yet received a formal bid from a consortium led by Elon Musk, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday, adding to the confusion over an unsolicited attempt to take control of the world's most prominent AI company.

Sam Altman is leaving no room for doubt about his views on an Elon Musk-led bid to take control of OpenAI. In a letter to OpenAI staff Monday, the CEO put the words “bid” and “deal” in scare quotes and said the startup’s board has no interest in the offer.

OpenAI director Larry Summers said he has not received any formal outreach from billionaire Elon Musk and his consortium of investors about their $97.4 billion offer to take control of the ChatGPT maker.
