Atmos Rewards, the new loyalty program from Hawaiian and Alaska airlines, has officially taken off as the singular way for flyers using either airline to earn points, benefits and status. HPR's Emma Caires breaks it down.

The new program, called Atmos Rewards, took effect for Alaska Airlines customers on Thursday. HawaiianMiles members will transition to Atmos on Oct. 1.

Alaska Airlines introduced Atmos Rewards: its own (and Hawaiian Airlines') loyalty programs, and a new high-end credit card as a means to woo high-value flyers. The expansion puts Alaska on more equal footing with bigger carriers by growing its footprint and providing increased benefits, destinations, and flexibility.
