Five months after his arrest and erroneous deportation to El Salvador made him the center of debate over Trump administration immigration policy, Kilmar Abrego Garcia was released Friday from a Tennessee prison and headed home to Maryland.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia plans to travel to Maryland before returning to Tennessee in January for his criminal trial.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongly deported in March before being brought back to the U.S., has been released from criminal custody in Tennessee and is on his way to Maryland, an attorney for Abrego Garcia told ABC News.
