More than six years after Jussie Smollett was accused of falsely reporting a hate crime attack in Chicago, the former “Empire” actor and his case are back in the spotlight. Netflix documentary “The Truth About Jussie Smollett” is set to hit the streamer on Friday, Aug. 22 and feature interviews from those involved in the case and Smollett himself.

Smollett will appear alongside other notable athletes, artists, and personalities, including married couples Eric Decker and Jessie James Decker -- a former NFL player and country music singer, respectively -- and former NFL player Andrew East and retired Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East.

Smollett previously starred on the music drama Empire from 2015 to 2019. He left the show after claiming that two men assaulted him, spouted racial and homophobic slurs, and tossed a noose around his neck in downtown Chicago, while he was filming the television show.
