Educators and advocates say a growing number of schools are stepping in to support students who have had one or both parents detained by ICE.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents swarmed onto a busy street in a popular district of Manhattan on Tuesday, some even wielding assault rifles.

Later in the evening, a group of elected officials joined protesters near 26 Federal Plaza, chanting “ICE out of New York” at the intersection of Broadway and Reade Street in lower Manhattan. Protesters were supervised by dozens of NYPD officers as they marched back and forth across the crosswalks.

An ICE operation in New York City resulted in the arrests of nine migrants from West Africa who were in the U.S. illegally, Homeland Security said.
