Utah freshman quarterback Byrd Ficklin made his first career start on Saturday night. And it took him less than a minute to find pay dirt. On the second play from scrimmage, Ficklin kept the ball and broke off a 63-yard touchdown run to put the Utes up early. And that was just the start for the talented true freshman.

Coming off the bye week that followed a 24–17 win over No. 22 Iowa State earlier this month, coach Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes were handed a rude welcome back to the gridiron by Utah. Entering halftime, Colorado trailed the Utes 43–0 and were getting shellacked in every facet of the game.
